Writing out lists and identifying the bigger picture can give us clarity on putting our best foot forward in the New Year.
However, when writing out ambitious targets, it can leave you feeling a little intimidated and not sure how to tackle something so big.
Chunking things down and working backwards is a MUST with any substantial sized target.
Say your goal is to lose 20kg and/or play Bohemian Rhapsody on the piano by the end of the year.
On the 2nd of January, do you pull out the sheet music, start playing the piano and jump on the weight scales with high hopes?
Of course not! There are a HUGE amount of steps and practice required before this is even a possibility.
Small steps, fundamentals, discipline and habits are the framework for you achieving those New Year’s resolutions that you’ve set for yourself.
If you lose 380 grams per week, then by December you would have hit your 20kg weight loss target!
When you break it down, it sounds a little bit more manageable… BUT don’t confuse this with it being “easy.”
Small steps give you a starting point and a game plan, but having the habits and disciple to stick with it is where the magic lives.
The accumulation of repeated reps and practice, instils habits and routines that will keep you chipping away when the going gets tough.
Once it’s no longer a conscious decision to hit the gym or practice, then you have won!! … and it’s only a matter of time before you are exactly where you want to be!
Embrace the New Year and remember small things become big things overtime.
